AAP's Bibhav Kumar detained amid Swati Maliwal assault allegations
Leader of the Opposition, Subhendu Adhikari, criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the recent judgment demanding compensation of Rs 765 crore to Tata Motors over the Singur land dispute. Adhikari suggested that the payment to Tata Motors should come from Mamata Banerjee's party fund and not from the taxpayers' money, warning of a potential public protest if the latter was enforced.
The Singur judgment was a significant victory for Tata Motors. A three-member arbitral tribunal directed the state government to pay Rs 765 crore as compensation to the Tata Group, with the State Industrial Development Corporation being the payer. Additionally, the state must cover 11 percent interest, calculated from September 2016, and deposit an extra Rs. 1 crore as the cost of the case.
Adhikari expressed his strong disapproval of the Chief Minister's approach, claiming that Mamata Banerjee's actions had detrimentally impacted Bengal's industrial prospects. He accused her of selfishness and holding responsibility for the state's economic woes, concluding that the recent verdict exacerbated the wounds suffered by Bengal's industries.
